Thanks to the Alabama Universal Breakfast Grant, Hoover City Schools will be able to offer free breakfast to all students this school year. This supplemental funding, authorized by the Alabama State Legislature, helps ensure every student has access to a nutritious breakfast each morning, supporting their health and readiness to learn.
Each breakfast at no cost includes four items: a whole grain entrée, a meat or meat alternative (such as yogurt or cheese), a fruit or vegetable, and milk. Students must select at least three items, including a fruit or vegetable, for the meal to qualify as a breakfast at no cost. Any additional items selected beyond the included meal components will be charged to the student's account.
While this opportunity is funded through a one-year grant for the 2026–2027 school year, we are thankful for the support that makes it possible and hopeful that similar opportunities may be available in the future.
We are excited to offer this opportunity to our students beginning on the first day of school, August 12. We are also incredibly thankful to our Child Nutrition Program team for all they do behind the scenes to make this possible. From preparing meals to welcoming students each morning, their work has a big impact on thousands of students every day. We look forward to seeing our students at breakfast this year!
